CLEANING LENTILS A: OK AB: OK B: A O: A

Unfortunately, lentils come with rocks! My new improved method to keep the rocks from breaking my teeth:

You'll need a clear dish - I use a pyrex 9' square pan. Work on dry lentils. I pour only a few lentils in at a time...so only 1/3rd of the plate has a single layer thick of lentils.

I pick out all the obvious stones (usually jagged edges-can be very small usually gray/rock colored). I also pick out the solid black and the solid

Took me 30 minutes to go through a pound, but NO ROCKS in my mouth! Pour the 'real lentils' into a fine colander for rinsing as soon as you are done with sorting.

Remember towards the bottom of the bag - more rocks are common. If you aren't sure if it's a lentil - toss it - better to waste a few good lentils than to have a broken tooth!
